INEC Revises Osun Guber Campaign Timeline, Fixes August 13 Deadline
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a revision to the campaign timetable for the Osun State governorship election, setting August 13, 2026, as the final day for political activities.
The decision was conveyed in a statement on Thursday by the Commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
INEC explained that the adjustment became necessary following an earlier shift in the election date as contained in its updated timetable released on February 26, 2026. The Osun governorship election was moved forward by one week, from August 8 to August 15, 2026.
Consequently, political campaigns will now end at midnight on August 13, in compliance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates the cessation of campaigns 24 hours before polling.
The Commission called on political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the revised schedule, warning that compliance with electoral guidelines is essential to ensure a smooth and orderly process.
Reaffirming its commitment to credible elections, INEC stated that the adjustment is part of its broader efforts to strengthen the integrity and efficiency of the electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Commission added that maintaining a level playing field for all contestants remains central to its mandate.
