Former President Goodluck Jonathan has warned Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo and legal scholar Prof. Chidi Odinkalu to refrain from commenting on his political decisions, particularly regarding his rumored 2027 presidential ambition.

In a statement made by his brother, Azibaola Robert, Jonathan dismissed Keyamo and Odinkalu’s concerns about his eligibility to run for president again, citing potential legal challenges due to his prior two terms in office. Robert emphasized that Jonathan is fully qualified to run for office if he chooses to and that any decision not to pursue the presidency would not stem from a lack of qualifications.

“Any decision not to pursue the presidency would not be due to a lack of qualifications,” Robert said. “Jonathan has access to experienced legal counsel within the PDP, and he does not require unsolicited advice from individuals who may have their own agendas.”

Keyamo and Odinkalu had advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against granting Jonathan the party ticket, arguing that it could lead to legal challenges. However, Robert’s statement suggested that Jonathan is confident in his eligibility and will not be swayed by external opinions.

While Jonathan has not formally declared his candidacy for the 2027 elections, discussions surrounding his potential return have already sparked debates over issues of zoning and succession within Nigerian politics.
