Kano Deputy Governor Gwarzo Resigns Amid Political Tensions
The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has resigned from office, according to a statement issued by the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
The announcement, conveyed by the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, stated that the decision, though difficult, was taken in the overall interest of the people and to ensure stability in the state’s governance.
According to the statement, recent developments had significantly constrained Gwarzo’s ability to effectively discharge his duties, making it necessary for the office to function without limitations in the public interest.
The movement, however, clarified that the resignation does not amount to an admission of the allegations levelled against him by the Kano State House of Assembly.
Gwarzo, a known ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso, had reportedly been at odds with the political direction of the state government, particularly following moves by the governor to align with the All Progressives Congress.
Sources within the movement indicated that the deputy governor declined to follow the governor’s defection, a development believed to have deepened the political rift within the state’s leadership.
The resignation marks a significant shift in Kano’s political landscape, with implications for governance and party dynamics ahead of future elections.
