A Magistrate’s Court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail to publisher and activist Omoyele Sowore; Aloy Ejimakor, a member of the legal team representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu; the IPOB leader’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu; and ten others.

The court set bail at ₦500,000 for each defendant, with two sureties required in the same amount. All thirteen defendants were arraigned before the court on charges of inciting public disturbance and breach of peace related to their involvement in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held on Monday, October 20, in Abuja.

According to the prosecution, the defendants “engaged in acts that incited public disturbance and breached peace” during the demonstration. While Ejimakor, Emmanuel, and the ten other defendants were arrested during the protest and subsequently remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility, Sowore was apprehended on October 23 at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja after attending Kanu’s terrorism trial to show solidarity.

The court proceedings highlighted the legal arguments from both sides, with the defense emphasizing the right to peaceful assembly. The bail conditions were met after sureties were presented and verified, allowing the defendants to be released pending further hearings.
