The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has issued a firm and categorical denial of any interest in the 2027 Niger State governorship election. This follows the circulation of an unauthorized political write-up titled “Malagi 2027,” which speculated on various political scenarios for the election. In a statement from his office, the minister clarified that the article does not reflect his views or intentions.

The statement identified the author of the piece as Sa’idu Enagi, one of the minister’s aides. It strongly disavowed the contents of the write-up. “The public is hereby urged to disregard the said write-up and the speculation it contains regarding the minister’s political ambitions,” the statement read. It emphasized that Idris neither directed nor approved the publication.

Minister Idris stressed his dedication to his current national duties. “I remain focused on the task at hand at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and will not be distracted by premature electioneering activities, for which I have zero tolerance,” the minister was quoted as saying.

In response to the incident, the minister has initiated an investigation. The aide responsible for the article, Sa’idu Enagi, has been suspended with immediate effect. The statement underscored the minister’s commitment to ensuring his office remains focused on its official responsibilities.

Furthermore, the communication highlighted the cordial relationship between Minister Idris and the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago. It stated that both officials remain dedicated to collaborative efforts aimed at fostering development and stability in Niger State. The minister reiterated that premature speculation about the 2027 elections is unhelpful and could detract from these ongoing efforts.
