Mongolian PM Resigns Months After Taking Office
Mongolia has been thrown into fresh political uncertainty after Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar submitted his resignation, according to Chinese state media reports.
A report by Reuters said the Mongolian leader tendered a resignation letter to the ruling Mongolian People’s Party on Friday, citing information from Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
While the brief report did not immediately provide details on the reasons behind the move, the development is expected to trigger political negotiations within the ruling party and parliament over a possible successor.
Zandanshatar has been serving as Mongolia’s prime minister since June 2025, after being appointed by the country’s parliament following the resignation of his predecessor amid political pressure and public unrest.
The latest resignation would mark yet another leadership shake-up in Mongolia in less than a year, highlighting the growing instability within the country’s political system and ruling party.
Under Mongolia’s constitution, the prime minister is nominated by the president and must be approved by parliament, meaning a new leadership process could begin if the resignation is accepted.
Political observers say repeated leadership changes could further deepen uncertainty in the resource-rich Asian nation, which has in recent years struggled with public anger over corruption, economic concerns, and internal party rivalries.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming hours as Mongolian authorities and the ruling party react to the reported resignation.
