Fresh waves of extreme weather are expected to hit Afghanistan after devastating floods and storms left at least 148 people dead, worsening an already dire humanitarian situation across the country.

According to reports from disaster management authorities and international aid agencies, the fatalities were caused by a combination of flash floods, heavy rainfall, and landslides that swept through several provinces, destroying homes, farmland, and critical infrastructure. Rural communities have been the hardest hit, with entire villages submerged and thousands displaced.

Officials warn that the crisis is far from over. Meteorological forecasts indicate that more severe weather; including additional heavy rains and possible flooding is likely in the coming days. This raises fears of further casualties and complicates ongoing rescue and relief operations, as access to affected areas remains limited due to damaged roads and infrastructure.

Humanitarian organizations have expressed concern over the scale of destruction, noting that many survivors are now without shelter, food, or medical care. The situation is particularly alarming in remote regions where aid delivery is slow and vulnerable populations; including women and children, face heightened risks.

The extreme weather comes amid broader challenges for Afghanistan, including economic hardship and limited resources for disaster response. Aid agencies are calling for urgent international support to help prevent a worsening humanitarian crisis as the country braces for more dangerous conditions.
