Nigerians Mourn as Onos Brisibi, Iconic Nollywood Voice, Dies at 55

Renowned Nollywood soundtrack singer and gospel artiste, Onos Brisibi, has passed away at the age of 55, sparking widespread reactions across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

 

Family sources confirmed that the singer died on March 23, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

 

Brisibi, celebrated for her powerful and emotional vocals, was best known for lending her voice to some of Nollywood’s most iconic films, including Domitilla, Blood Money, and Mortal Inheritance.

 

Her unique sound became a defining feature of the Nigerian home video era, earning her recognition as one of the most sought-after soundtrack artistes of her time.

 

In a statement announcing her passing, her family described her as a “devoted Christian” and a gifted songstress whose life and music impacted many.

 

“She will be remembered as a beautiful, fun-loving woman with a heart of gold,” the statement noted, highlighting her warmth, faith, and kindness.

 

Tributes have since poured in from colleagues and fans, with Nollywood veterans and media personalities expressing shock and sadness over her death.

 

Actor Richard Mofe-Damijo described her as a woman whose voice “didn’t just sing but ministered,” while actress Stella Damasus and broadcaster Emma Ugolee also described the loss as painful and devastating.

 

Born on November 20, 1970, in Delta State, Brisibi began her music career at a young age and rose to prominence through her contributions to Nollywood soundtracks and gospel music ministry.

 

Beyond film, she also collaborated with notable Nigerian artistes, including a feature on Lagbaja’s track “Gra Gra.”

 

She is survived by her daughter, mother, siblings, and members of her church community, with funeral arrangements expected to be announced later.
