NSCDC Arrests Four Suspected Drug Dealers, Recovers Pregabalin, Diazepam, Marijuana in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested four suspected illicit drug dealers and recovered assorted controlled substances during a covert operation in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the NSCDC Counter Terrorism Unit based at Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government Area, following what the command described as credible intelligence.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed the arrests in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.

The suspects were identified as Abubakar Abdullahi, 35; Rabiu Baffa, 25; Aminu Lawan, 35; and Ibrahim Idris, 33, all residents of Gaida in Kumbotso LGA.

According to the NSCDC, items recovered during the operation included four sachets of Pregabalin 300mg capsules, popularly known as “PG”; dozens of Diazepam tablets, locally called “Fara”; three tubes of Oshin Solution, also known as “Sholisho”; as well as three big packs and 20 parcels of suspected marijuana.

The arrests, according to the corps, followed intelligence gathering and surveillance that led its operatives to the suspected drug dealers.

The Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Agalama, warned members of the public, particularly youths, against the illegal sale, distribution and abuse of drugs.

Agalama described drug abuse as a serious threat to public safety, security and the wellbeing of society, particularly among young people.

He said the NSCDC would continue to work with other security and law-enforcement agencies to tackle activities capable of undermining peace and security in Kano State.

“After a preliminary investigation by the Corps, the four suspects and the recovered exhibits would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Command, for further investigation and necessary legal action,” the commandant said.

The NSCDC also urged residents to provide credible information on suspected illicit drug activities in their communities, assuring informants that such information would be treated with confidentiality.

The four suspects are expected to face further investigation by the NDLEA following their transfer, while the recovered substances will form part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation.
