Police Neutralise Two Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victims in Delta Operation

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and violent crimes, following a coordinated operation that led to the rescue of two victims and the death of two suspected kidnappers.


In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was carried out in the early hours of Thursday by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad in collaboration with the military.

The team, acting on credible intelligence, trailed the suspects to their hideout along the Obulu-Uku Power Line after reported kidnapping incidents in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City, Ogwashi-Uku.


According to the police, the suspects opened fire upon sighting the operatives, resulting in a gun duel.

The security team responded, successfully rescuing two female victims. Two members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate sustained fatal injuries during the exchange.

Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and a sum of ₦4.2 million believed to be part of ransom payments collected from victims.

Police authorities said a combing operation is ongoing in the surrounding bushes to recover additional weapons and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

The injured suspects were taken to a hospital, where they were later confirmed dead.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, as well as the support of the military, noting that inter-agency collaboration remains vital in combating violent crimes.

He reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
