Scores Feared Dead as Gunmen Attack Residents in Jos

Scores of residents have reportedly been killed, with several others injured, following a deadly attack by unknown gunmen in Angwan Rukuba ahrea of Jos, located in Plateau State.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. when the assailants, who arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, opened fire indiscriminately at a crowd gathered at a popular junction in the area.

The attackers were reported to have begun shooting near a well-known private school in the community, triggering panic as residents and passersby fled in different directions to escape the violence.

Confirming the development, the Media Information Officer, Captain Chinonso Polycarp, said the attack took place while residents were going about their normal activities.

He noted that although the exact number of casualties is yet to be determined, scores of people were feared killed, while many others sustained injuries and have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to him, security agencies have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. He added that security personnel have since been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further escalation of violence.
