SEVEN KILLED IN FRESH ATTACK ON MINING SITE IN PLATEAU STATE

No fewer than seven persons have been killed in a deadly attack on a mining site in the Kuru community of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack, which occurred on Wednesday night, also left several other persons injured.
Confirming the incident to the journalists via telephone, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Artisanal Mining, Emmanuel, said he received information about the attack late Wednesday night.

According to him, the victims were attacked while at a mining site in Kuru community, describing the incident as “most unfortunate.”
Emmanuel noted that the attack is part of a disturbing pattern of violent assaults targeting miners in Jos South Local Government Area.
He recalled that just a day earlier, gunmen attacked miners in another community in Gyel, also within Jos South. During that incident, three miners were reportedly ambushed while on their way to a mining site, with two of them killed and one narrowly escaping.

He further disclosed that about two weeks prior, another group of miners was ambushed by gunmen in the same local government area, resulting in the death of two persons, while one other sustained injuries.
The repeated attacks have raised concerns over the safety of artisanal miners in the area, as calls continue for improved security measures to protect mining communities across Plateau State.
