SGF AKUME DENIES ASPIRATION TO APC CHAIRMANSHIP ROLE

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has denied reports that he is seeking the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, Akume described the reports as false and distracting.

According to Akume, his focus remains on fulfilling the responsibilities assigned to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “I am not lobbying for any party position and am committed to supporting the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement read.

Akume acknowledged the capability of other individuals in the North-Central zone to lead the APC but reiterated that his priority is national development, not party politics. He urged the media to verify political claims before publication, highlighting the importance of credible reporting.
“I believe my achievements are a result of divine grace and support from others, including President Tinubu, and I am committed to ensuring that Nigerians benefit from democracy,” Akume said. The SGF’s denial comes amid speculation about potential successors to the APC’s current leadership.
