SIXTEEN NIGERIAN MILITARY OFFICERS FACE DISCIPLINARY ACTION FOR INDISCIPLINE AND REGULATORY BREACHES
The Armed Forces of Nigeria has announced that sixteen officers are set to face military justice following their arrest for indiscipline and breaches of service regulations stemming from a routine military exercise. In a statement, Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, revealed investigations showed the officers’ grievances centered on perceived career stagnation largely due to repeated promotion examination failures alongside other issues.

Tukur Gusau emphasized some apprehended officers were already under jurisdiction for various offences awaiting or undergoing trial, deeming their conduct incompatible with military service standards. “Upon completion of investigation, indicted officers will face the full military disciplinary process in accordance with established procedures to ensure accountability and preserve professionalism within the Armed Forces,” Gusau noted.
The military stressed these actions reflect routine disciplinary efforts to uphold order, discipline and loyalty, assuring the public the measures target preservation of institutional integrity. “The Armed Forces will not tolerate behaviour that undermines the integrity of the institution or threatens its constitutional role under democratic authority,” Tukur Gusau declared.
The statement underscored the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s steadfast commitment to constitutional responsibilities and professionalism. Tukur Gusau affirmed the military remains dedicated to its mandate, reinforcing adherence to standards expected of personnel.
