‘Speculation,’ Omotoso Dismisses Rift Between Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports of a rift between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, describing such claims as unfounded.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said suggestions of a strained relationship between the two leaders were mere speculation.

According to him, President Tinubu maintains a fatherly relationship with Sanwo-Olu, stressing that there is no indication of discontent from the President.

“How will a father say there is no future in his home? The President is a father to Mr Sanwo-Olu. Most of the things you hear are imaginary and speculative,” Omotoso said.

He added that the President, as Commander-in-Chief, has the liberty to visit any state, noting that such visits would not occur if there were underlying disagreements with a sitting governor.

On succession politics ahead of the end of Sanwo-Olu’s tenure in May 2027, Omotoso stated that discussions around a successor have not begun officially, dismissing circulating rumours as premature.

The commissioner also addressed ongoing infrastructure projects in Lagos, including the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, defending its reported cost and describing it as a major development requiring significant investment.

President Tinubu is expected to visit Lagos in the coming days to inaugurate key projects executed by the Sanwo-Olu administration.
