At least 13 people have been killed and several others abducted after heavily armed terrorists stormed a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area, late Sunday night.

The attack occurred around 11:47 p.m., when assailants armed with AK-47 rifles entered the venue and opened fire on guests. Residents described scenes of panic as the attackers fired indiscriminately.

“They came in their numbers and started shooting sporadically at people,” said Shehu Bala, a local resident. “Some of the victims were rushed to Kagarko General Hospital, while two with severe injuries were taken to Kaduna for treatment.”

The chaos made it difficult to ascertain the number of people abducted. “There are friends of mine who were injured, but it is unclear how many were kidnapped,” Bala added.

A community leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the deaths and named some of the victims: Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, Peter Williams, Joseph Yakubu, Victor Peter, John Dan Asabe, Angulu Markus, Maikano Aribi, Douglas John, Ado Yakubu, Zaphaniah Alhaji, Joseph Kaddah, and Francis Unguwa Doya.

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the killings and abductions. DSP Hassan Mansur, spokesperson for the command, stated that details are still sketchy as investigations continue.

Authorities are working to secure the area and track down the attackers.
