Tinubu Commissions Africa’s Largest School Complex in Lagos
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday commissioned the redeveloped Tolu School Complex in Ajegunle, describing the project as a major step toward securing Nigeria’s future through investment in education.

The facility, built by the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is located in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State and is considered the largest school complex in Africa. Constructed on about 11.73 hectares, it comprises 36 public schools, including 31 secondary and five primary schools, and is designed to serve tens of thousands of students in the densely populated community.

The President was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In his remarks, Tinubu said the commissioning was more than the unveiling of a school, noting that it underscored the importance of investing in young people as the foundation of national development. He commended the Lagos State Government for executing a project of such scale, describing it as a reflection of vision, planning and commitment to improving the lives of citizens.

“The remarkable scale and significance of the Tolu School Complex, serving tens of thousands of students within a single environment, is truly exceptional,” he said, adding that the regeneration of such a large educational system demonstrates a clear focus on the future.

The President stressed that Nigeria must continue to invest in education not just as a social service but as a driver of economic growth, noting that equipping young people with knowledge and skills prepares them to compete in a changing world. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda to expand access to quality education and ensure students acquire practical skills.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said delivering a project of that magnitude in a community with about 20,000 pupils reflects the people-oriented approach of his administration.

Facilities at the complex include a standard football pitch with race tracks, multipurpose sports courts, a fire service station, a health centre, perimeter fencing and security gates. The school also features water harvesting systems, a biodigester and solar panels to ensure stable power supply.
President Tinubu also virtually commissioned the Maracana Stadium in Ajegunle, which consists of 19 mini-football pitches, as well as the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Abijo, Ajah.
