Troops of Operation HADIN KAI Successfully Repel Terrorist Attack in Benisheikh

Troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on their formation headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State, in continuation of ongoing counter-terrorism operations by the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

In a press release signed by Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, the Defence Headquarters disclosed that the attack occurred at approximately 0030 hours (12:30 a.m.) on Thursday, 9 April 2026, when insurgents attempted to breach the defensive perimeter of the Brigade Headquarters. Troops, led by Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded with exceptional courage, professionalism, and superior firepower.

The insurgents were decisively engaged and forced to retreat in disarray, abandoning their mission and leaving behind traces of their failed assault.

The statement noted that the attempted attack reflects the desperation of terrorist elements who, following significant losses in recent operations, continue to launch futile offensives against well-defended military positions. It added that the swift and coordinated response by troops highlights the high level of combat readiness, resilience, and operational effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI.

Regrettably, the encounter resulted in the loss of some brave and gallant soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, paid tribute to their heroism and sacrifice, noting that their courage remains a source of pride and inspiration to the Armed Forces and the nation.

The High Command extended its deepest condolences to the families of the fallen and urged the public to disregard misinformation and unverified reports circulating on social media, warning that such content could undermine ongoing operations.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with other security agencies, reaffirmed their commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace in the North-East. Clearance operations are ongoing to track and neutralize fleeing insurgents and prevent any regrouping.

Citizens were also encouraged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while supporting security agencies with credible information.
