U.S. President Donald Trump has said he is considering the possibility of seizing Kharg Island, a key oil facility in Iran, as tensions in the ongoing conflict continue to rise.

Speaking amid intensified military activity, Trump stated that the United States has “many options,” including taking control of the island, which handles a significant portion of Iran’s oil exports. However, he also suggested that a peace agreement could be reached “fairly quickly.”

The remarks come as U.S. officials indicate preparations for possible ground operations, even as diplomatic signals remain mixed.

Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, is considered a strategic asset, with reports indicating that about 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports pass through the facility. Analysts say any move to seize the island would be complex and could escalate the conflict further.

Meanwhile, fighting has intensified across the region. Israel has launched new strikes on Tehran, while Iranian forces have reportedly fired missiles in response, raising fears of a broader regional war.

The conflict is also having significant global economic effects, with oil prices climbing above $115 per barrel, triggering concerns over rising fuel and food costs worldwide.

In Europe, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to meet business leaders to assess the economic fallout, particularly disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.

Military developments have also spread to neighbouring regions, including Lebanon, where clashes involving Israeli forces and Hezbollah have resulted in casualties.

Despite the escalating violence, Trump maintained that a negotiated settlement remains possible, even as both sides continue to exchange threats and intensify military actions.
