Trump Holds Press Conference as Iran Refuses Key Ceasefire Condition
Tensions in the ongoing Iran war escalated further on Monday as the U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the media following Iran’s rejection of a key ceasefire condition, the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

During a White House press conference, Trump reiterated his administration’s demand that Tehran immediately restore access to the vital oil shipping route, warning of severe consequences if the ultimatum is ignored. The U.S. has set a firm deadline, with officials hinting at a significant escalation in military action should Iran fail to comply.
Iran, however, has refused the proposal, insisting that any agreement must lead to a permanent end to the war and include guarantees against future attacks. Iranian officials also presented an alternative multi-point plan through mediators, rejecting what they described as an inadequate and temporary ceasefire arrangement.
The Strait of Hormuz; a critical global oil transit route, has remained at the centre of the conflict. Tehran has maintained restrictions on the U.S. and allied vessels, a move that continues to disrupt global energy markets and intensify geopolitical tensions.
Trump’s remarks come amid rising military activity across the region. U.S. and Israeli forces have intensified strikes on Iranian infrastructure, while Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting regional assets. Casualties continue to mount across multiple countries, further complicating diplomatic efforts.
Despite ongoing mediation by countries including Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, negotiations appear increasingly fragile. Analysts warn that the collapse of talks could trigger a broader regional escalation, particularly if threats to target civilian infrastructure are carried out.
Global leaders and the United Nations have urged restraint, stressing the need for a diplomatic resolution as the humanitarian and economic toll of the conflict deepens.
