Two Reps Members Defect to APP
Two members of the 10th House of Representatives Nigeria on Wednesday defected to the Action Peoples Party.
The lawmakers, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere and Mathew Nwaogu, were previously members of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party Nigeria, respectively.
Their separate letters of defection were read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, following the resumption of plenary after the Sallah recess.
In their letters, both lawmakers cited internal crises within their former parties as the primary reason for their decision, noting that the situation had hindered effective political participation and representation.
In a move to strengthen its presence in the National Assembly, the APP announced the appointment of Ugochinyere as the party’s House of Representatives Caucus Leader.
The National Chairman of the party, Uche Nnadi, who was present during plenary, formally received the defectors and described their move as a bold step toward deepening democratic values and improving representation.
He added that the inclusion of the lawmakers would enhance the party’s legislative influence, reiterating the APP’s commitment to building a strong political platform anchored on accountability, service, and national development.
