The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, has suspended its ongoing strike following the payment of March 2026 salaries to its members.

In a statement issued on Friday by the branch chairperson, Prof. Jurbe Joseph Molwus, the union, confirmed that lecturers began receiving salary alerts shortly after the withdrawal of services commenced on April 8, 2026.

According to the union, the university administration received clearance for the salary payment from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation hours after the strike action began.

“After careful evaluation, we have confirmed the payment of our March 2026 salaries, as the majority of our members have received their alerts based on reports from various faculties,” the statement said.

Despite the development, ASUU expressed concern over the non-payment of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), noting that the component was not included in the March salary.

The union called on the federal government to release the necessary funds to ensure full implementation of the 2025 agreement between the government and ASUU, stressing that this is essential to maintaining industrial harmony in the university system.

Following the salary payment, ASUU directed its members to immediately resume academic activities, including lectures, examinations, and statutory meetings.

However, the union warned that failure to address the outstanding allowance issues could trigger another withdrawal of services at the end of April or in subsequent months.

ASUU reaffirmed its commitment to continued engagement with the government while urging proactive steps to prevent further disruptions in the academic calendar.
