U.S. Vice President JD Vance has issued a stern warning to Iran as he departs for high-stakes diplomatic talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between both nations.

Speaking to reporters before leaving Washington on Friday, Vance cautioned Tehran against engaging in bad-faith negotiations, stressing that the United States would not tolerate being “played” during the discussions.

“We’re looking forward to the negotiation… If the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we’re certainly willing to extend the open hand,” Vance said. “But if they try to play us, the negotiating team will not be receptive.”

The Vice President is leading a U.S. delegation to Islamabad, Pakistan, where talks are expected to focus on de-escalating tensions and preserving a fragile ceasefire following weeks of hostilities in the Middle East.

The conflict, now entering its sixth week, has raised global concerns, with both sides holding firm on key demands. Despite a temporary truce, analysts warn that the ceasefire remains on the brink of collapse due to deep divisions between Washington and Tehran.

Vance’s involvement marks a significant moment in U.S.-Iran relations, as direct high-level engagement between both countries has been rare in recent decades. His role is seen as critical in determining whether diplomacy can succeed where previous efforts have stalled.

The outcome of the talks could shape the trajectory of the conflict, with mounting international pressure on both nations to reach a lasting agreement and avoid further escalation.
