Very Difficult Until September’: Zelensky Signals Hard Months Ahead for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Ukraine will face months of intense diplomatic and military pressure, particularly through the spring and summer, as the war with Russia grinds on without a clear resolution.

Speaking to reporters, Zelensky said the coming months “will be quite difficult politically and diplomatically,” adding that Ukraine should also expect sustained pressure on the battlefield. He noted that the situation could remain challenging “until September,” reflecting both military realities and growing international expectations for a negotiated settlement.

The warning comes amid a renewed Russian offensive and continued strikes on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Fighting has intensified along the more than 1,000-kilometre frontline, with both sides reporting heavy losses and limited territorial gains.

Zelensky also highlighted increasing diplomatic pressure from international partners, some of whom are urging Kyiv to scale back attacks on Russian energy infrastructure and consider pathways toward negotiations. This comes as global geopolitical tensions; particularly conflicts in the Middle East, risk diverting attention and resources away from Ukraine.

Despite these challenges, Ukraine maintains that it will not concede territory to Russia and continues to push for stronger international support, including military aid and stricter sanctions on Moscow.

While Ukrainian forces have made modest gains in recent months and slowed parts of Russia’s advance, officials acknowledge that the war remains in a difficult phase with no immediate breakthrough in sight.

Zelensky’s remarks underscore the dual pressure facing Kyiv: holding the frontlines against Russian advances while navigating complex diplomatic expectations from allies seeking an end to the prolonged conflict.
