Wike Hosts Asari Dokubo In Port Harcourt As 2027 Political Activities Intensify
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday received prominent Niger Delta figure Asari Dokubo at his Port Harcourt residence in Rivers State, with discussions believed to centre on the 2027 general elections.
The Rivers State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda, was also in attendance alongside other political associates and loyalists of the FCT Minister, according to reports. Photographs from the gathering showed Wike, Dokubo and Chinda together at the residence.
Details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed. However, the meeting is believed to be connected to the 2027 general elections, coming amid heightened political activities and consultations across party lines in Rivers State.

The closed-door meeting comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls, with Dokubo having earlier pledged his support for Wike and President Bola Tinubu.
In January 2026, the former Niger Delta militant leader declared his backing for Tinubu’s re-election bid, pledging to mobilise support for the President through the FCT Minister.
Commending Wike for a visit to his palace in Degema at the time, Dokubo explained that Tinubu stood by him in his time of need, stressing that it was time to return the favour.
“Like you said, my friend, everything that is going to happen, I will be with you in making sure that my friend, the President succeeds,” Dokubo said. “Everything that I am capable of doing, I will do to make sure that he succeeds. I was not a traditional ruler when we met in 1992. I never thought I would ever become what I am today. He stood by me in my most difficult period, and it is now my turn to also stand by him and also support him.”
Dokubo’s endorsement marked a significant political shift, as he had previously been a vocal critic of Tinubu.
Chinda, the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, is politically aligned with Wike. His political support structure was inaugurated in Port Harcourt at the weekend as mobilisation ahead of the 2027 governorship election intensifies.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has also intensified his political engagements in the state. The minister has been visiting various local government areas while campaigning for President Tinubu.
In recent weeks, Wike has held meetings with political and traditional leaders in Rivers State and other parts of the region.
The FCT Minister has also reiterated his pledge to resign if President Tinubu fails to win Rivers State and the FCT in the 2027 presidential election.
“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister,” Wike said during a recent engagement. “By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT.”
The meeting with Dokubo comes at a time when politicians and political groups are increasingly positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. Political activities are expected to increase further as the general elections draw closer, with major figures continuing consultations and engagements across different parts of the country.
No official statement had been issued on whether Monday’s meeting was connected to the 2027 elections at the time of filing this report.
