WOMAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER SCORPION STING AT BOSTON’S LOGAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

A 40-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital on Sunday night after being stung by a scorpion at Boston’s Logan International Airport. According to Massachusetts State Police, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. local time in the baggage claim area of customs.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, was retrieving her luggage when she was stung. Boston Emergency Medical Services transported her to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the woman’s condition or the type of scorpion involved.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are still unclear about how the scorpion ended up at the airport. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), most scorpion stings are not serious, but they can cause “intense pain and redness.” However, venom from some species “can cause severe illness, affecting the heart, nervous system, and other organs.”

The Mayo Clinic advises that most scorpion stings do not require hospital treatment, but the wound should be cleaned with mild soap and water. Anti-venom may be provided if symptoms are serious and require hospitalization. Scorpions are typically found in subtropical and tropical areas and can be found on every continent except Antarctica, according to the CDC.
