2027: Kano Govt Alleges Kwankwaso Secretly Backing Tinubu Ahead of Presidential Race
The Kano State Government has alleged that the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may be quietly working in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The allegation was made by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, during an appearance on Arise Television on Wednesday.
According to Bature, while some political actors openly declare support for President Tinubu, others are allegedly offering support behind closed doors.
“There are those who are working for Tinubu openly in the public space, and there are also those who can work for Tinubu behind the scene,” he said.
Bature further claimed that Kwankwaso’s political moves could ultimately favour the president, alleging that the former Kano governor had also indirectly supported Tinubu during the 2023 election.
“I believe whatever Kwankwaso is doing will favour Tinubu at the end of it because Kwankwaso has worked for Tinubu in 2023,” he stated.
He added that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano would openly mobilise support for Tinubu in the next election cycle.
“In 2027, we are going to work for Tinubu directly and openly as members of the APC, but I believe Kwankwaso is also working for Tinubu behind the scene,” Bature added.
The remarks come amid growing political realignments and speculations over possible alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election, particularly involving influential northern politicians and emerging opposition coalitions.
