Nigeria’s state governors have disclosed that proposals for the establishment of state police are nearing submission to the National Assembly, signaling a major step in ongoing efforts to reform the country’s security architecture.

The development was made known by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, after leading over 20 governors on a Sallah visit to Bola Tinubu at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

AbdulRazaq stated that consultations are ongoing with security agencies, coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser, to fine-tune the framework for the proposed state policing system.

According to him, governors have already submitted recommendations outlining a legislative structure that would empower individual states to establish and manage their own police forces.

He added that the governors remain committed to strengthening collaboration with federal security agencies as part of broader efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity across the country.

The push for state police has intensified in recent years amid growing security concerns nationwide, with many stakeholders advocating decentralized policing as a more effective approach to addressing local security challenges.

Jewish community leaders and emergency services have condemned what authorities describe as a “deeply shocking antisemitic attack” after several charity ambulances were deliberately set on fire.

The incident, which targeted vehicles belonging to a Jewish volunteer ambulance service, has sparked outrage across political and religious circles.

The ambulances, often used to provide rapid medical assistance within the community, were reportedly parked when they were vandalised and torched, causing significant damage and disrupting essential services.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the act as “deeply shocking” and unequivocally condemned the attack, calling it a clear case of antisemitism. He stressed that such hate-driven actions have no place in society and pledged support for the affected community and a full investigation into the incident.

Emergency responders confirmed that no casualties were recorded, but the destruction of the ambulances is expected to impact response times for medical emergencies in the area.

The targeted organisation, widely known for its volunteer-based emergency response, plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable individuals.

Police have launched an investigation into the attack, treating it as a hate crime. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and appealing to the public for information that could lead to the identification and arrest of those responsible.

Community leaders have expressed deep concern over rising antisemitic incidents, urging stronger protections and swift justice. Many have also called for unity and vigilance in the face of growing hate crimes.

The attack has reignited conversations about religious tolerance and public safety, with officials reaffirming their commitment to protecting minority communities and preventing further acts of violence.

Two Pilots Killed in Jet Collision with Fire Truck at LaGuardia

Two pilots have been confirmed dead after a passenger jet collided with an airport fire truck at LaGuardia Airport, triggering panic among passengers and forcing a temporary shutdown of operations.

The incident occurred during landing when the aircraft struck the emergency vehicle on the runway under circumstances that are still under investigation. Authorities say the pilot and co-pilot suffered fatal injuries on impact, while several passengers and crew members sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene, evacuating passengers from the aircraft and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Images from the scene showed significant damage to the front section of the jet, while the fire truck was also severely impacted.

Preliminary reports indicate the fire truck may have been responding to another situation when it entered the runway. Air traffic control communications are now being reviewed to determine whether there was a breakdown in coordination that led to the collision.

Following the crash, flight operations at LaGuardia Airport were temporarily suspended, causing delays and cancellations across multiple routes.

Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Aviation experts say the incident raises serious concerns about runway safety and communication protocols at busy international airports.

Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation progresses.

Trump Pauses Iran Strike Threat, Gives Tehran Deadline Over Strait Of Hormuz

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a temporary halt to planned military strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, granting a five-day pause following what he described as “productive” talks between Washington and Tehran.

Despite the pause, Trump issued a stern warning that Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or face potential military action targeting its power plants and energy facilities.

In a social media post late Saturday, Trump threatened that the United States would “obliterate” Iranian power infrastructure if the country fails to comply, escalating tensions around one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.

The warning came amid heightened rhetoric from Tehran, which reportedly threatened to deploy naval mines across the Persian Gulf if its coastlines or islands are attacked. The threat was conveyed through a semi-official Iranian news agency.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital artery for global energy supply, accounting for roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil shipments. Any disruption to the waterway has the potential to trigger significant economic and geopolitical consequences.

The developments have raised fresh concerns across the region, with analysts warning of possible escalation if diplomatic efforts fail to yield a resolution within the stated timeframe.
