The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has strengthened its internal accountability system with the inauguration and induction of new members of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), as part of efforts to deepen integrity and ethical standards within the agency.

Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, NiMet Director-General, Charles Anosike, said the initiative represents a renewed commitment to transparency, professionalism, and improved service delivery across the organisation.

He explained that the move aligns with NiMet’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which is built on the principles of Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence (I-PACE), aimed at strengthening institutional reforms.

According to him, the ACTU serves as a key internal mechanism for preventing corruption and ensuring staff compliance with ethical standards. He added that the unit has been expanded from five to eight members to enhance effectiveness and inclusiveness.

Anosike urged staff to collectively embrace the fight against corruption, stressing that accountability must be embedded in the agency’s culture rather than left to a few individuals.

Representing the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Olusegun Adigun commended NiMet for strengthening its transparency framework and called for continued collaboration between both organisations.

He noted that inter-agency cooperation remains essential to improving accountability and reinforcing public trust in government institutions.

The NiMet DG charged the newly inducted ACTU members to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, professionalism, and integrity, assuring them of full management support.

He reiterated NiMet’s commitment to transparency, describing the inauguration as part of ongoing efforts to build a more accountable and ethically driven public service.
