Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal Opens in Umuahia as Abia Celebrates Integrity in Democracy
The Abia State Government has officially commissioned the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, marking a major milestone in the state’s transportation and infrastructure development drive.
The newly inaugurated terminal, now open for public use, is designed as a multimodal transport hub capable of accommodating more than 340 buses simultaneously. The facility is also powered by sustainable infrastructure and connected to the state’s expanding electric bus network.

Government officials described the project as a strategic investment aimed at improving urban mobility, reducing congestion, and creating a more organized and efficient transport system for residents and visitors in the state capital.
The terminal was named after Professor Nnenna Oti, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer during the 2023 Abia governorship election. Prof. Oti gained national recognition after resisting pressure and alleged inducements to manipulate election results while overseeing the collation process.

Her role in declaring the results of the election, which many Nigerians viewed as credible and transparent, earned her widespread praise across the country and particularly among Abia residents.
Speaking on the significance of the project, the government said the naming of the terminal reflects a commitment to celebrating integrity, courage, and public service.

Residents and transport operators are expected to begin utilizing the facility immediately following its commissioning, with officials expressing confidence that the project will enhance economic activities and modernize transportation across the state.
