A Ukrainian drone strike on a commuter train in Crimea has killed one person and injured three others, according to Russian-installed authorities in the region, marking the latest escalation in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Sergei Aksyonov, the Moscow-appointed head of Crimea, said the attack targeted a suburban passenger train traveling between Azovske and Kerch in eastern Crimea. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, while the injured were taken for medical treatment.

The incident occurred amid a broader wave of Ukrainian attacks across the Russia-annexed peninsula. Earlier, officials reported that strikes on non-residential facilities in Simferopol, Crimea’s administrative center, killed three people and wounded seven others.

In Sevastopol, another key city on the peninsula, Russian authorities said air defense systems intercepted more than 20 drones overnight. Debris from downed drones reportedly damaged several buildings, though no casualties were immediately reported there.

Ukraine did not immediately comment on the reported train strike. Kyiv has frequently targeted military and infrastructure sites in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, arguing that such locations are legitimate military objectives. Moscow, meanwhile, has accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks on civilian targets.

The latest attack comes as both sides continue exchanging drone and missile strikes deep behind front lines, underscoring the increasingly long-range nature of the war and the growing vulnerability of transportation and infrastructure networks in contested regions.
