Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has renewed her call on Nigerians to embrace home gardening as a practical way to improve food security, promote healthy living and support environmental sustainability.

The appeal came after another harvest from the vegetable garden at the State House, Abuja, which she established about two years ago under the #EveryHomeAGarden initiative to encourage households across the country to cultivate their own food.

During a routine visit to the garden, the First Lady harvested a variety of vegetables, including spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin, describing home gardening as an affordable means of accessing fresh and nutritious food.

She said maintaining a home garden not only contributes to household food security but also complements efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Oluremi Tinubu urged Nigerians to sustain interest in home gardening, stressing that the initiative remains a simple but effective strategy for improving family nutrition while reducing food costs.

She also encouraged citizens to cultivate the habit of sharing with others, distributing part of the day’s harvest to members of her staff as a demonstration of compassion and generosity.

The #EveryHomeAGarden initiative was launched by the First Lady as part of efforts to promote self-sufficiency in food production and support the Federal Government’s drive to strengthen food security across the country.
