The Osun NUJ Guest Platform hosted Senator Akogun Lere Oyewumi, the Director General of the Imole Campaign Council and Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, on Wednesday at the NUJ Press Centre in Osogbo.

The Osun NUJ Chairman, Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, welcomed the Senator and explained the positive purpose of the programme while thanking him for honouring the invitation despite a hectic schedule.

He assured that the Senator’s message would receive widespread publicity as typical of the media.

In his opening remarks, Senator Oyewumi spoke glowingly about the “huge milestone achievements” of Governor Ademola Adeleke and assured that a second term will be of greater benefit to the people of Osun State.

On the issue of insecurity, the Senator expressed deep worry over the recent spate of political motivated killings of Accord Party members in the state.

He noted that despite a recent visit by the Inspector General of Police, it was disappointing that another victim was killed on Sunday, with the only apparent reason being that he was wearing an Accord Party T-Shirt and Cap.

He expressed optimism that these developments will not deter the people. He described the opposition as “medicare and lacking knowledge of politics” and recalled that one of the early assaults was the destruction of Adeleke and Accord billboards by the opposition, which he said ironically boosted the governor’s popularity.

On unemployment, Senator Oyewumi said the governor inherited massive backlogs of unpaid arrears and pensions and has been working hard to clear them while maintaining prompt payment of salaries, despite Osun’s low allocation ranking 28th among states.

He assured that by a second term all payments would be settled, allowing employment to fully commence.

He highlighted that Governor Adeleke is an innovative and listening leader who ensures his lieutenants are professionals.

He cited the health sector as an example where Osun has maintained first place in the South West twice in a row, winning $500,000 each time.

The Senator noted that no local government is untouched, with at least 1.5 kilometres of road constructed in each.

He also revealed that Adeleke, inspired by a curved flyover picture from Atlanta, replicated the design in Osun, giving birth to the Oke Fia flyover in the state capital.

During his vote of thanks, the NUJ Chairman drew the Senator’s attention to the terrible condition of Olupona Community High School.

The Senator promised that the school will be rehabilitated by December 2026.
