The Federal Government has suspended the proposed increase in registration fees for the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Monday.

According to the ministry, the suspension is intended to allow for a comprehensive review of the proposed fee adjustment and wider consultations with key stakeholders before any final decision is reached.

The ministry said the move followed concerns and feedback from members of the public over the planned increase in examination registration fees.

It added that consultations would be held with parents, school proprietors, examination bodies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that any future decision reflects the interests of all parties.

The Ministry of Education assured the public that new registration fees, if approved after the consultation process, would be announced in due course.
