Amaechi Loses Mother at 89

Former Minister of Transportation and Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has lost his mother, Mrs. Mary Amaechi.

According to a statement issued by the Amaechi Media Office on Thursday, Mrs. Amaechi died peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 89.

The family described the late matriarch as a woman of deep Christian faith who devoted her life to promoting love, peace and unity within her family and community.

The statement noted that she was a respected community women’s leader and Christian leader whose compassion, kindness and commitment to serving others earned her admiration beyond her immediate community.

“Late Mrs. Mary Amaechi was a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace and unity. She was a community women’s leader and Christian leader whose belief and faith in God were firm and resolute,” the statement read.

It added that she would be remembered for her warmth, generosity and unwavering support for family members, friends and those in need.

Amaechi and members of his family expressed appreciation for the messages of condolence and prayers received from friends, supporters and well-wishers since news of her passing became public.

The family said details of her funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Mary Amaechi is survived by her children, grandchildren and other members of the extended Amaechi family. May her soul rest in peace.
