Former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed confidence that he can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election if he secures the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket. Amaechi made the remarks during an X Space session called “Weekend Politics.”

“I believe I can defeat President Tinubu in 2027 if I get the ADC ticket,” Amaechi said. He also vowed to end corruption in Nigeria within one month if he becomes president, or he would resign. “If I’m unable to end corruption in one month, I’ll resign,” he added.

Amaechi pledged sweeping reforms if elected, including changing the constitution and replacing the indigeneship system with citizenship rights. He accused powerful figures of stealing public funds from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and said that these funds, if properly utilized, could solve the country’s security and economic crises.

The former governor also promised to channel savings from fuel subsidy removal directly to ordinary Nigerians rather than the elite. “We’ll ensure that the savings from fuel subsidy removal benefit ordinary Nigerians, not just the elite,” he said.

Amaechi claimed to have never participated in election rigging and has consistently turned down appointments to serve on APC election planning committees. “I’ve never been involved in election rigging. If anyone can produce evidence, I’ll apologize,” he challenged.

Amaechi admitted that Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, won in Rivers State during the 2023 election but claimed the results were altered. “Peter Obi won in Rivers State, but the results were changed. I don’t know how it was done,” he said.
