A devastating tanker explosion has occurred in the Dan Magaji area of Zaria, Kaduna State, leaving several people feared dead. The incident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday, near Rochas Foundation School, along the Kaduna-Kano expressway bypass from Kwangila to Dan Magaji.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Golf cars, resulting in five loud explosions and a massive fire that sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky over the highway. “All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” a witness recounted.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the details of the incident, noting that emergency responders, security agencies, and fire service personnel have cordoned off the area. Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to avoid the route while rescue and recovery operations continue.

As of press time, the exact number of casualties had yet to be confirmed. The incident has sparked concern over road safety and tanker accidents in Nigeria, particularly on major highways linking northern cities.

The Federal Road Safety Commission has provided some details on the incident, but there seems to be conflicting reports on the nature of the tankers involved and the number of casualties. According to the Unit Commander, Nasir Falgore, one of the trucks was loaded with LPG, while the other trailer tanker was empty. Falgore stated that four people were injured and hospitalized, with no reported deaths.

Further investigations are needed to determine the exact circumstances and consequences of the incident.
