Afropolitan Edit, a fashion media and consultancy platform focused on African fashion and creative industry development, is set to launch THE EDIT, a two-day curated fashion retail experience designed to give independent African fashion brands greater visibility and direct access to consumers.

The event, scheduled for October 30 and 31, 2026, will take place in Lekki, Lagos, during the Lagos Fashion Week season and will feature 10 independent African fashion brands.

Built around the theme, “A Little More Room For African Fashion,” THE EDIT is designed to create an alternative space where fashion brands can move beyond runway exposure to engage directly with customers, showcase their collections and build commercial relationships.

According to Afropolitan Edit, the initiative responds to the changing dynamics of Africa’s fashion industry, where a growing number of independent labels are building businesses and communities outside conventional runway platforms.

Precious Efanga, Creative Director of Afropolitan Edit, said the concept was developed to create more opportunities for African fashion brands to be discovered, experienced and supported.

“THE EDIT is about creating more room for African fashion to be discovered, experienced, and supported. There are exceptional brands building from studios, workshops, and growing businesses, and we want to create another platform through which their work can reach new audiences,” she said.

Efanga said the decision to make THE EDIT retail-focused was deliberate, arguing that meaningful relationships between fashion brands and consumers begin beyond the runway.

“A runway creates visibility, but the customer relationship begins when people can engage with the product, understand the story behind it, and make a decision to buy. THE EDIT is designed around that connection,” she said.

The event will combine brand discovery, direct consumer engagement and retail, giving participating businesses an opportunity to present their products while receiving immediate feedback from their target audiences.

Afropolitan Edit will also complement the physical event with digital storytelling focused on the participating brands, their products and the people behind the businesses.

The digital component is expected to extend the conversation around the brands before, during and after the two-day retail experience, creating additional opportunities for audience engagement and commercial visibility.

Efanga said the integrated approach was intended to ensure that the initiative goes beyond a temporary retail showcase.

“We are looking beyond two days of retail. We want to tell the stories of the brands, introduce the people behind them, and create a longer conversation around their products. Visibility is important, but meaningful engagement and commercial sustainability are equally important,” she said.

With THE EDIT taking place alongside the wider Lagos Fashion Week season, Afropolitan Edit expects the initiative to provide consumers, fashion enthusiasts and industry stakeholders with another avenue to discover and engage with African fashion.

The platform said its broader objective is to contribute to a more connected fashion ecosystem in which independent African brands have greater opportunities to build audiences, strengthen customer relationships and develop sustainable businesses.

“African fashion has extraordinary creative talent,” Efanga said. “What we are creating with THE EDIT is an additional platform for that talent to connect with audiences and translate creativity into sustainable business relationships.”

Through the combination of curated retail, digital storytelling and direct consumer engagement, THE EDIT is positioned as a platform for independent African fashion businesses seeking to expand their visibility while building stronger relationships with customers.

Afropolitan Edit describes itself as a fashion media and consultancy platform focused on African fashion, creative industry development and business growth, using storytelling, strategic programming and curated experiences to connect fashion brands with audiences and the wider creative economy.
