The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured air travellers that efforts are underway to keep airports across the country operational despite the ongoing industrial action by aviation unions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, FAAN said it was closely monitoring the labour dispute and working with aviation agencies, airlines, security agencies and other stakeholders to minimise its impact on airport operations.

The assurance comes as aviation unions intensify industrial action, which has already affected flight operations at some Nigerian airports, with some airlines reporting cancellations and disruptions.

FAAN said it recognised the legitimate role of organised labour and expressed support for efforts by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and other stakeholders to reach an amicable resolution.

The authority said measures were being sustained to ensure the safe and orderly continuation of airport operations.

“FAAN remains committed to ensuring that Nigeria’s airports remain safe, secure, functional and accessible to passengers and other airport users,” the statement said.

The authority also disclosed that earlier operational challenges affecting the movement of some flights within the airside environment had been addressed through inter-agency coordination.

It said additional measures were being maintained to support flight operations.

FAAN advised passengers to remain calm and maintain contact with their respective airlines for real-time updates concerning their flights.

The authority said it appreciated the patience and understanding of travellers while discussions aimed at resolving the labour dispute continue.

FAAN expressed confidence that the ongoing engagements under the leadership of Minister Keyamo would result in a “speedy and mutually acceptable resolution.”
