Adeleke Visits Wike in Abuja, Presents Certificate of Return After Osun Election Victory

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Abuja, presenting his Certificate of Return following his victory in the recent governorship election.

Adeleke visited Wike on Thursday, shortly after meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented the Certificate of Return to Adeleke on Wednesday, formally recognising him as the winner of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

The governor’s visit to Wike has attracted attention against the backdrop of the FCT minister’s recent comments concerning the Osun election and the APC’s campaign.

Wike had said he would have travelled to Osun State to campaign for Oyebamiji if President Tinubu had wanted the APC candidate to win the election “at all costs.”

The minister made the remark while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

Despite the political differences surrounding the election, Adeleke’s courtesy visit to Wike and presentation of his Certificate of Return signal a post-election engagement between the Osun governor and the FCT minister.

Adeleke’s victory has also strengthened his political standing in Osun, following the official declaration of the election results and subsequent presentation of his Certificate of Return by INEC.

The visit comes as political attention increasingly shifts towards the next phase of governance in Osun and the wider political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
