Tinubu Renews Tenures of NAN MD, NTA DG for Another Three Years

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the tenure of the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Malam Ali Muhammed Ali, and the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Malam Abdulhamid Dembos.

The two media executives will serve another three-year term beginning October 20, 2026, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Ali and Dembos were initially appointed by President Tinubu on October 20, 2023.

Dembos’ NTA Experience

Dembos, an indigene of Adamawa State, is a veteran broadcaster and former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).

According to Onanuga, Dembos began his career with the NTA as an announcer at the Kaduna station after completing his National Youth Service in 1989.

He subsequently rose through the ranks, serving as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano before becoming Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre.

He retired from the NTA in 2017 but later returned to the organisation as Executive Director of Marketing.

Ali Brings Three Decades of Journalism Experience

Ali, the NAN Managing Director, is a veteran journalist and media manager with more than three decades of professional experience.

Onanuga said Ali has maintained a strong interest in the evolution of the media industry, particularly content development and the use of digital platforms to meet the information needs of an increasingly diverse audience.

Ali holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University.

Tinubu Charges Media Chiefs on Performance

President Tinubu urged both chief executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by continuing to demonstrate commitment to the mandates of their respective organisations.

The President also tasked them with supporting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through effective public information and communication.

The renewed appointments will keep Ali at the helm of NAN and Dembos as NTA Director-General for another three years, beginning October 20, 2026.
