Troops Foil Ransom Payment, Rescue Kidnapped Woman in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a kidnapped woman and foiled an attempt by terrorists to collect ransom for her release in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The operation followed credible intelligence about a planned ransom payment for the woman, who was abducted from her farm last month.

The acting spokesperson for the troops, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Osoba said troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the ransom transaction but came under attack after the terrorists sighted their advancing positions.

According to him, the troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to retreat, abandoning the hostage.

“The engagement forced the criminals to retreat in disarray, abandoning the hostage, who was subsequently secured by our troops,” he said.

The rescued woman was reportedly found unharmed and has since been transported safely to reunite with her family in Danko-Wasagu.

Osoba said troops subsequently searched the terrorists’ withdrawal route to ensure the area was fully secured before returning to base.

In a separate operation, troops also conducted clearance and dominance patrols across parts of Ngaski Local Government Area.

He said the patrols were completed without incident as part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of movement in the area.

The military spokesman assured residents that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue sustained operations against terrorists and bandits operating in Kebbi State and other parts of the country.

“We will keep the fire on everywhere the terrorists are. We will dismantle them to secure Kebbi State and Nigeria,” Osoba said.

He urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that could help troops prevent attacks and disrupt criminal activities.

“We urge members of the public to continue sharing credible information with security agencies. Such intelligence is critical to thwarting the activities of criminal elements and securing our communities,” he said.
