Hannatu Musawa Honoured With ‘Mairamar Kasar Hausa I’ Title by Emir of Daura

The Emir of Daura, His Royal Majesty Dr. Umar Faruk Umar, CON, has conferred the traditional title of “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I” on the Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.

Musawa announced the honour in a statement celebrating her recognition, describing the traditional title as a deeply personal honour that connects her to her roots, heritage and the rich cultural traditions of Hausaland.

She said she received the title with gratitude, humility and a strong sense of responsibility, noting that the recognition would further strengthen her commitment to preserving and promoting Hausa culture.

“Beyond the honour it represents, I see it as a call to continue celebrating, preserving and promoting our heritage, while ensuring that its values, stories and traditions are passed proudly to generations yet to come,” she said.

Musawa expressed appreciation to the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, who attended the ceremony, as well as royal fathers, traditional institutions and the people of Katsina State for what she described as their warmth, love and generosity.

The honour came as celebrations marking Hausa Day drew to a close, with Musawa stressing the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage for future generations.

She said culture should not be viewed merely as an inheritance from the past but as a living legacy that must be protected and transmitted to those coming after.

Musawa pledged to carry the title of Mairamar Kasar Hausa ta Farko with pride while renewing her commitment to the preservation and promotion of the heritage of Kasar Hausa.

“I am proud of my heritage. I am proud of our culture,” she added.

The recognition highlights the continuing role of traditional institutions in honouring individuals considered to have contributed to the promotion and preservation of Hausa culture and heritage.
