Kano Seizes 419 Cartons of Expired Farm Chemicals, Foils Alleged Resale Attempt

The Kano State Consumer Protection Council has confiscated 419 cartons of expired agricultural chemicals allegedly stockpiled for possible reintroduction into the market.

The council said the products were discovered along Club Road in the Kano metropolis following credible intelligence received by its officials.

Executive Secretary of the Kano State Consumer Protection Council, Dr. Ibrahim Garba-Muhammad, disclosed the seizure in a statement issued on Saturday by the council’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Jamilu Mustapha.

According to Garba-Muhammad, the raid followed information that the expired chemicals had been stored at the location and that there was an alleged attempt to alter their condition before putting them back into circulation.

He said council officials recovered the products and immediately sealed the premises where they were stored.

“The raid was carried out following credible intelligence indicating that the expired chemicals had been stockpiled at the location.

“There was an alleged attempt to alter the condition of the products and reintroduce them into the market,” he said.

Garba-Muhammad said the seized products would remain under the council’s custody while investigations are concluded and appropriate legal action commenced.

He described the operation as part of the council’s ongoing efforts to prevent the circulation of adulterated, expired and unsafe products in Kano State.

The executive secretary reaffirmed the council’s commitment to protecting consumers from products capable of endangering their health and safety.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could help authorities identify and stop the circulation of unsafe products.

Garba-Muhammad also appealed to traders, companies and individuals to report suspected expired, adulterated or otherwise unsuitable products through the council’s designated communication channels.

He commended the Kano State Government for its continued support for the council and assured residents that the agency would take necessary measures to prevent unsafe products from reaching consumers.

The council did not disclose the identity of the owner or operator of the sealed premises, saying investigations were ongoing.
