Academic, Research Expert Kalla Named Pioneer VC of Gembu Varsity

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has approved the appointment of Professor Demo Joab Usman Kalla as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science, Technology and Climate Action, Gembu.

The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps.

Kalla, an accomplished scholar in Animal Science, is expected to lead the development of the new Gembu-based institution as it begins efforts to establish its academic and administrative structures.

Before his appointment, Kalla served as the Director of the TETFund Centre of Excellence on Dairy Research and Development at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. He is also a member of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee.

The professor has extensive research experience in Animal Science and has published widely in reputable local and international academic journals. His work in the field has earned him recognition within academic and professional circles.

Governor Kefas expressed confidence that Kalla would bring his experience in academia, research, leadership and administration to bear on the development of the institution.

The governor charged the new Vice-Chancellor to work with relevant stakeholders to advance the university’s mandate in education, research, innovation and sustainable development.

Kalla’s appointment comes as the Taraba State Government moves to establish the Gembu-based university as an institution focused on tropical agriculture, science, technology and climate action.

The governor wished the pioneer Vice-Chancellor a successful and impactful tenure and urged him to deploy his expertise towards building the capacity and reputation of the new university.

The appointment has also been reported by several Nigerian news outlets, which identified Kalla as an Animal Science scholar with significant academic and research experience.
