Nigerian Programmer Wins Silver At International High-Tech Championship In Russia

A Nigerian software programmer, Olaniran Taiwo Sikiru, has won a silver medal at the 2026 High-Tech Championship Final held in Veliky Novgorod, Russia.

Sikiru finished second in the Quality Control Specialist for Transport Logistics Processes category at the international competition, marking Nigeria’s first participation in the championship.

He competed alongside his Nigerian expert and mentor, Ojetimi Abdulfatai, who provided technical guidance throughout the competition.

The championship, held from September 14 to 18, attracted more than 15,000 participants from 30 countries, alongside representatives from all 89 regions of the Russian Federation.

Competitors took part in 20 high-tech professional competencies covering areas linked to emerging technologies, industry and specialised skills.

Sikiru’s silver-medal finish placed him among the leading performers in his category at a competition focused on professional skills and technologies relevant to modern transportation and logistics.

Although a software programmer by profession, Sikiru competed in a specialised discipline combining technology, logistics, quality control and transportation systems.

The Quality Control Specialist for Transport Logistics Processes competency focuses on applying professional and technological methods to improve quality, efficiency and reliability in transport and logistics operations.

His participation with Abdulfatai represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s involvement in international professional skills competitions and provides a platform for Nigerian technology and skills professionals to gain exposure on the global stage.

The achievement is also expected to create greater opportunities for Nigerian competitors to participate in future editions of the High-Tech Championship and other international skills competitions.
