Nigeria has stepped up efforts to attract Spanish investment into its blue economy as the country’s Ambassador to Spain, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, participated in the opening of the 27th International Frozen Seafood Exhibition, CONXEMAR 2026, in Vigo, Galicia.

The exhibition, held on Tuesday, October 6, at the IFEVI Exhibition Centre, brought together major players in the global frozen seafood industry, including government officials, business leaders and stakeholders in fisheries and aquaculture.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Xunta de Galicia, senior representatives of the Spanish Government, the President of CONXEMAR, the Mayor of Vigo, members of the diplomatic corps and other key stakeholders in the sector.

Ambassador Ikpeazu also held side engagements with CONXEMAR officials and representatives of companies operating in packaging, marine services, fisheries and related industries.

The discussions focused on opportunities for deeper commercial cooperation and investment between Nigeria and Spain, particularly in areas connected to the country’s blue economy.

The Nigerian Embassy in Spain said the engagements were part of its ongoing efforts to showcase Nigeria’s investment opportunities and attract Spanish businesses into the country’s fisheries and maritime sectors.

CONXEMAR is recognised as one of the world’s major trade fairs dedicated to the frozen seafood industry, providing a platform for businesses and policymakers to explore partnerships, investment opportunities and developments across the global seafood value chain.

Nigeria’s participation in the exhibition is expected to further strengthen economic ties with Spain while opening opportunities for investment, technology transfer and partnerships that could support the development of the country’s blue economy.
