The trial of Adeniyi Adeyemi, accused of posing as the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has been transferred to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for fresh arraignment.

Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday struck out the eight-count charge against Adeyemi to pave the way for the case to proceed before the FCT High Court.

The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), moved the application to terminate the existing proceedings, explaining that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and identified loopholes in the charges filed by the Inspector General of Police.

Oyedepo told the court that some of the alleged forged documents linked to Adeyemi’s activities fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

He informed the judge that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court, where Adeyemi would be arraigned again.

The prosecution consequently urged the court to strike out the existing charge to allow the case to proceed before the appropriate court.

Defence counsel, Ibrahim Angulu (SAN), did not oppose the application.

Justice Umar subsequently struck out the eight-count charge, paving the way for the fresh arraignment.

Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial alongside two other defendants identified only as Femi and Anu, whose surnames and whereabouts remain unknown.
