Plateau Police Arrest 40-Year-Old Man For Shooting Wife Dead Over Family Dispute, Recover Three Rifles

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Davou Dachung, for allegedly shooting his wife, Jessica Davou, to death following a family dispute at their residence in Haita Fwil Village, Vwang, Kogot, in Jos South Local Government Area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the incident occurred on October 18, 2026, when the suspect shot the victim in the left side of her chest with a locally fabricated firearm. The case was reported at the Kaduna Vom Division on October 20 at about 12:00pm.

“The Plateau State Police Command under the leadership of CP Ayodeji Faniyan has arrested one Davou Dachung, 40 years old in connection with a case of Culpable Homicide reported at Kaduna Vom Division of the Command on 20/10/2026 at about 12:00pm,” Alabo said.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to mobilise officers to the scene.

The suspect was arrested while the victim was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was confirmed dead.

“Further interrogation of the suspect by crack detectives of the State Violent Crime Response Unit led to the detection and recovery of additional weapons recovered from the suspect making a total of three locally fabricated firearms and five cartridges,” Alabo stated.

An initial search of the suspect’s residence had uncovered one fabricated rifle and live cartridges before the additional weapons were discovered during further interrogation.

The police spokesperson said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for intense investigation, after which the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The police statement did not disclose details of the family dispute that reportedly led to the shooting, nor whether the suspect has made any statement or admitted responsibility.
