ABUJA HIGH COURT NULLIFIES UGOCHINYERE’S EXPULSION FROM PDP, DECLARES ACTION ILLEGAL AND KANGAROO

An Abuja High Court has nullified the expulsion of Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, member representing Ideato North South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Justice Iheme delivered the landmark judgment, declaring the action baseless, illegal, and an act of rascality taken too far by impostors.

The court held that the purported Ward Executive Committee lacks the powers to set up a disciplinary committee against a member of the National Assembly, as it relates to the PDP Constitution. The judge ruled that the Ward Executive Committee usurped the powers of the National Executive Committee by setting up a disciplinary committee to try a Member of the National Assembly.
The court declared that the Notice of Expulsion is a worthless document without any force of law, having been procured in an illegal manner contrary to the Constitution of PDP as amended in 2017. The judge emphasized that only the National Executive Committee can discipline a serving National Assembly member, and the PDP NEC and HQrs categorically denied suspending or expelling Ugochinyere.
The judgment stated that Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere is still a member of the PDP and a member of the National Assembly. The court also ruled that parties are bound by the Constitution and cannot deviate from its provisions.
The judgment has been described as a fatal blow to the pro-Wike/Anyanwu faction of PDP, which attempted to silence Ugochinyere with a kangaroo expulsion and a secret suit to declare his seat vacant.
